Origin & Farming Practices

Einkorn is one of the world’s oldest cultivated grains, dating back over 10,000 years to the Fertile Crescent, which spans parts of present-day Iraq, Syria, and Turkey. It was prized for its resilience, nutrition, and rich flavor, but eventually gave way to modern wheat in large-scale farming.

At Ancient Grains, we’re helping restore this heritage crop. On our family farm in southeast Idaho, we grow Einkorn using organic and regenerative practices that enrich the soil and protect the grain’s natural traits. We never use pesticides or glyphosate, and every harvest is tested for purity.

What’s the difference between all-purpose and whole grain einkorn flour?

All-purpose einkorn flour has had the bran and germ removed, resulting in a lighter texture and milder flavor. Whole grain einkorn flour contains the entire grain, offering more fiber, nutrients, and a slightly nuttier taste. Use all-purpose for softer baked goods and whole grain for hearty, rustic recipes.
